 What are Clinical Trials?

  • Clinical trials are scientific studies that test the safety and effectiveness of new treatments for MS and other diseases.
  • They often use human subjects.
  • They are often conducted by universities, MS clinics, and neurologists.
  • All clinical studies must follow an FDA-approved protocol so that all treatment is provided and all data is collected uniformly.

Why are Clinical Trials important?

  • The results yielded from clinical trials are vital to the development of safer, more effective treatments for MS.
  • No drug can be approved by the FDA without clinical trial proof of their safety and effectiveness.
  • The major advances made in the treatment of MS in the last 15-20 years have only been made because of the data provided through clinical trials.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that causes damage to the central nervous system. 85% of MS patients have some form of relapsing MS, and everyone experiences the condition differently. A relapse, also referred to as a flare-up or exacerbation, is when new symptoms develop, or existing symptoms worsen.

A new clinical trial is assessing the safety and effectiveness of an investigational treatment designed to reduce the rate of relapses and disease progression, leading to better health outcomes for those living with relapsing MS.

New MS research can’t move forward without research participants. Answer a few questions to see if you may be eligible to take part.

If you know any families or care partners affected by relapsing MS, please feel free to share this opportunity with them, too.
