(AP:ANAHEIM, Calif.) Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Monday it estimates that the number of new, paid H.P. Acthar Gel prescriptions for the treatment of multiple sclerosis grew 66 percent in the fourth quarter compared to the same quarter of 2009, after the company expanded its sales force.
The company said about 353 new prescriptions were filled and shipped during the quarter, which also represents a 9 percent increase from the third quarter. Questcor doubled its sales force from August to October to speed up its MS sales push and start promoting the product for the treatment of infantile spasms.
The company said in October the Food and Drug Administration had approved H.P. Acthar Gel for treatment of the spasms, a rare disorder affecting about 2,000 American children annually.
