Sanofi-aventis is currently recruiting for a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of the oral investigational drug teriflunomide. The Teracles study is being conducted in 11 states and internationally.
The main purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the investigational drug teriflunomide, at doses of 7 and 14 mg administered orally, once daily, in combination with interferon beta compared to placebo (substance which contains no active medication) in the treatment of subjects with relapsing forms of MS.
The minimum duration on treatment for any patient not withdrawing prematurely is 48 weeks. The overall study is estimated to conclude in December 2012.
Participant Benefits
- Qualified study participants will be paid a stipend per visit for their participation by the research site. These amounts vary per site.
- The study is being conducted through multiple sites located in eleven US states and internationally.
- Study participation includes healthcare monitoring of participants’ condition as it relates to the clinical study.
- Study-related medical care and study-related medication (not including the interferon medication you are already taking to enter the study) are provided at no cost to participants.
Risks of Participation
As with any clinical research study that involves an investigational medication, there is a chance of side effects. A detailed list of known possible side effects of the study medication is noted in the Informed Consent document. The clinical research staff will continually monitor participant safety. However, it is also important for participants to alert research staff should they experience side effects, or if they feel unwell during the study.
