HOW TO STOP TIME
By: Elissa Holzman – Health Coach, Health/E, LLC

Ever wish you could stop time? Despite the fact that the days often seem long – filled with work, errands and obligations – but the weeks and months just fly by. I’m watching my kids grow way too quickly (and I don’t just mean their height). Sometimes I think that being able to hit a “pause” button every once in a while would be a wonderful thing, so that I could step back and appreciate everything that’s happening in my life.

Well, there may not be a way to actually stop time, but here are some thoughts on how can you hit the “pause” button in your day…

· Breathe – It can be as simple as taking a moment to breathe deeply. This slows your heartbeat, decreases your blood pressure and relaxes your muscles. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? So step back and take a few deep breaths. Things are more manageable afterwards.

· Meditate – Carving out time and finding a quiet place can be tricky, but is almost always worth it. There are dozens of ways to meditate, and it’s not a “one size fits all” endeavor. But the benefits are real – meditation allows your mind to stop and reflect, and can make jumbled thoughts and ideas become clear.

· Smile – Studies show that faking a smile can actually improve your mood. So when you’re feeling overwhelmed by what’s happening around you, try rearranging your facial muscles. This changes your brain activity, lowers your heart rate and brings on a happier mood. Not to mention that everyone knows a smile is infectious – you’ll make everyone around you smile, too!

Although we may never have access to a time machine, you can create your own “pause” button. So hit that button as needed – it’ll always be there for you!
