British Inventor Chris Peacock Has Designed An Innovative Coffee Cup To Make Drinking Easier For People With Multiple Sclerosis.

According to the National MS Society, Multiple Sclerosis is thought to affect more than 2.1 million people worldwide. Well known people like Jack Osbourne and Ann Romney have MS. The First Lady Michelle Obama’s late father also had Multiple Sclerosis.
Over time, MS can make activities of daily living such as drinking difficult due to muscle weakness.
Award winning British inventor Chris Peacock has created a new type of cup called “handSteady” that maintains independence and dignity for people with MS.
handSteady looks like an ordinary fine bone china cup, yet is much easier to hold as it’s light weight and has a large handle for up to four fingers.
Yet, the most unique thing about the handSteady cup is that it is the first ever cup with a rotatable handle.
This enables people with Multiple Sclerosis to hold the handSteady handle at any comfortable handle, and gravity will keep the cup upright – thus avoiding dangerous spillages.
This feature also enables people with MS to hold the weight of the drink with one hand, through the handle, and tilt it with the other to control the liquid flow.
Judi Brums with MS says, “I have got Multiple Sclerosis. It was diagnosed 20 years ago. And the control in my hand has got worse. Therefore, it makes me feel very self-conscious about spilling and about being in difficult situations socially.”
Talking about the handSteady innovation, Judi Brums continues, “Having a handSteady makes me feel much more confident; that I can get the drink and that I can use it without spilling it”.
