Video: No Evidence Of Progression: New Outcome Measure in Multiple Sclerosis

No Evidence of Progression, or NEP, is a new outcome measure coined during the ORATORIO clinical trial where we studied people with Primary Progressive MS (PPMS) and randomly assigned them to receive either Ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) or placebo. Compared to the placebo group, those receiving Ocrevus had about a 50% high likelihood of having NO PROGRESSION for a 3 month period of time!

The definition states that there is no significant change over a 3 month period in 3 different neurological tests: the EDSS, the nine hole peg test, and the timed 25 foot walk test. Each are described in the video.

It is EXCITING that we had to invent a new metric to explain an amazing clinical finding (NO EVIDENCE OF PROGRESSION)! And, it’s amazing that a medication can increase the likelihood of one of my patients experiencing NEP!
